Plan a ‘No Bridge/No Traffic’ City Staycation at the Fairmont San Jose

Feb 27, 2017 02:23PM ● By Fran Miller

Consider a weekend getaway with a stay in a luxe top floor suite affording city skyline views. Choose a dining location from a long list of destination-level restaurants. Shop to your heart’s content at stylish boutiques, or peruse the local museums. Attend a show featuring an A-list performer. If all of this conjures a San Francisco sojourn, press your imagination’s re-set button and think San Jose. At the heart of Silicon Valley, one of the most energetic and invigorating locations on earth, San Jose rivals the vitality of our City by the Bay, and has all the glitz and glamour without the requisite bridge crossings or traffic ensnarements. San Jose’s dynamism is palpable, making it an ideal overnight or weekend getaway spot, and the Fairmont San Jose is your perfect home base for exploration.

Lobby Lounge

Featuring stunning city skyline views with the beautiful Santa Cruz Mountains in the background, the casual elegance of the Fairmont San Jose is equally suitable for a weekend of relaxation and pampering, a romantic night on the town, or a spirited family outing. 805 rooms within two towers feature luxurious beds and linens, marble bathrooms and soaking tubs, Rose 31 bath amenities, mini bars, coffee makers, and space to stretch-out. You might never want to leave the premises, especially on a warm day when the hotel’s rooftop pool beckons, or on a cold night when the swank Lobby Lounge bar serves-up a barrel-aged old fashioned with your name on it. But with so much to do in and around the area, the pool and cocktails might wait.

From historic Japantown, to exceptional local wineries, sporting venues, and nearby beaches, the Fairmont sets you up to take it all in. Road trip to the Santa Cruz Beach and Boardwalk, just 45 minutes south. Sniff, swirl, and sip at a variety of Santa Cruz Mountain wineries. Browse the world-class stores at Stanford Shopping center, Valley Fair Mall, and Santana Row. Visit the Children’s Discovery Museum, the Tech Museum of Innovation, or the San Jose Museum of Art, all just outside the doors of the hotel. Or scan SAP Center’s schedule of events and plan your stay around the appearance of your favorite performer. Back at the hotel, pamper yourself with a massage at the luxurious Tova Day Spa. Enjoy steam and sauna rooms adjacent to the pool. Relax during the Lobby Lounge’s 3 – 6pm happy hour while the kids explore the hotel’s resplendent ballrooms, hallways, meeting rooms, and skyway.

Fountain Restaurant

Then plan your dinner. Restaurant choices include the hotel’s own The Grill on the Alley, a lauded steakhouse with classic American dishes by Executive Chef Phil Kastel. In addition to large portions of steaks, chops, and fresh seafood, this spot is known for its signature desserts and extensive wine list. Also part of the hotel, the Fountain Restaurant is San Jose’s go-to for weekend brunch. Bottomless mimosas and Bloody Mary’s, cold-pressed juices by Origins Juicery, and a bountiful buffet are the draws. (They also serve lunch.)  From 11am until midnight, the Lobby Lounge is the place to enjoy bar bites while watching your favorite sporting event on the ten-foot big screen and four plasma televisions. The Lobby Lounge also offers live entertainment Wednesday through Saturday nights from 9pm until midnight. Explore a bit beyond the hotel grounds, and discover destination dining at restaurants like Roots & Rye, McCormick & Schmick, or Black Sheep Brasserie, among so many others.

No longer overshadowed by the other ‘San,’ San Jose and the Fairmont San Jose are ready to show you what the world’s tech industry insiders already know: San Jose is where it’s all happening. Get over there now and get in on the fun.
