Walnut Creek Senior Living Community Reveals Zero Cases of COVID-19

(thank you to our partners)

With over 400,000 positive cases of the coronavirus in California to date, the news that The Heritage Downtown has reported zero cases is both significant and reassuring to its senior residents, their families, and the greater Walnut Creek community. “Our staff has gone above and beyond to carefully follow the CDC, State, and County guidelines by putting into place stringent safety protocols that protect our senior residents. Our persistence and determination to keep our community safe has paid off, and we couldn’t be more relieved,” says Jenny Shively, Community Relations Director.

Some of The Heritage Downtown’s rigorous daily safety protocols include:

Taking staff member’s temperatures

Wearing masks and gloves

Sheltering in place and social distancing

Limiting visits by guests to “essential only”

Screening staff with a COVID-19 questionnaire

Cleaning and disinfecting the property throughout the day

Delivering healthy meals to residents apartments

While the staff works to mitigate the risk of contracting COVID-19 among residents, they also continue to provide them with engaging programs and activities such as fitness classes, discussion groups, and independent films. They also host weekly special events like happy hours, ice cream socials and birthday parties, which take place in the resident’s doorways.

When it comes to health and nutrition, The Heritage Downtown takes it to the next level, serving fresh, healthy meals to residents that are prepared onsite at the community’s very own Newton’s Restaurant. Chef JV sources local ingredients from the Walnut Creek Farmers Market and his on-site garden to thoughtfully produce farm to table cuisine.

“This is an uneasy time for everyone, but more so for those individuals who may be more vulnerable. So not only do we strive to protect our older adult residents physically, but we also work to comfort them and keep their spirits high,” says Shively.
