Loaves and Fishes is the largest provider of hot meals to the hungry in eastern Contra Costa County. We serve anyone who is hungry. For many of our clients it will be the only meal they will receive for the day. Our grocery distribution also supplements our client’s nutritional needs by providing additional food to be taken home by our clients. We estimate that we will serve over 155,000 meals and provide more than 180,000 equivalent meals (160 tons of food) through our food pantry program in fiscal year 2015-2016. There are individuals, families and children struggling in Contra Costa with food insecurity and we know this by the amount of people waiting in lines outside our five dining rooms every day. Without the Loaves and Fishes program over 750 people living in Contra Costa County would face extreme food insecurity. Loaves and Fishes also provides resources for other safety net services and as of April 2016 opened a Culinary Career Training program for youth at risk.
