Diablo Ballet's 2nd Annual Paws de Tutu

Dog Festival

Diablo Ballet presents their 2nd annual PAWS de Tutu dog festival on June 24 from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. at the Lafayette Reservoir. The dog costume competition and parade, benefiting Diablo Ballet’s PEEK Outreach programs, will feature costume and trick competitions, K-9 demos, dog adoptions, vendors, snacks and fun! For the second year, Charly Kayle, radio personality most recently with 96.5 KOIT Radio, will be the guest emcee. Dog owners and dog lovers are invited to join us to celebrate all things dogs, while raising money for a great cause! Registered guests will be treated to demos by Concord and Oakland Police K-9 units, a DOGA (Dog Yoga) demo by Molly Fox, dog costume and trick competitions, dog adoptions by ARF and Rocket Dog Rescue, a “PAWrade” around the picturesque Lafayette Reservoir, plus many vendors, snacks and coffee provided by Don Francisco’s. All registered guests receive a goodie bag filled with sponsor coupons, dog treats and snacks. Dog owners are invited to dress up their dogs and enter the following competitions: best individual costume, best group costume (for two or more dogs) and best dog trick competition. The top three in each category will win some great prizes provided by: Pet Food Express, WHISTLE dog trackers, and many more. Guest judges include: Pam Kessler, editor of Walnut Creek Magazine; Rosie Allen, long time news broadcaster at KGO and current Producer for Friends of Faith; Amanda Kuiper, wife of Glen Kuiper, TV broadcaster for the Oakland A’s; and Renee DeWeese, Co-Founder/Co-Artistic Director, Lamorinda Theatre Academy. All proceeds from PAWS de Tutu benefit Diablo Ballet’s PEEK Program (Performing Arts Education & Enrichment for Kids), the only arts education program of its kind offered by a professional dance company in the Bay Area. PEEK provides in-school movement curriculum and free dance performances to students and families in under-served areas who have few opportunities to participate in the arts. In 2015, Diablo Ballet extended the program to provide arts education to teenagers incarcerated within the Contra Costa County juvenile justice system. Anyone interested in attending, should register online at www.diabloballet.org as participation is limited. Admission is only $5 per person. To enter any or all of the competitions: $20 for adults and $10 for youth (17 and under), which includes the admission fee.
