Live! from the Library: The WWI Armistice Centennial - A Commemoration in Poetry & Song

World War I saw an unprecedented outpouring of literature responding to the war, particularly in poetry, each side creating its own unique style and voice. In a unique Live! from the Library presentation, Mark Jordan, Rhonda Taylor, and Rob Seitelman will include an overview of the conflict along with performances of poetry written by soldiers from the British Empire, Ireland, France, Germany, Eastern Europe, and America. The words of those at home, particularly women, will also be represented, as will songs relating to the impact of the war.

These three local actors will revisit World War I era poetry and song while commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Armistice that ended the First World War. Sponsored by the Walnut Creek Library Foundation, this event is free and open to the public. Space is limited and advanced registration is encouraged. RSVP online at www.wclibrary.org/live or by phone at 925.935.5395.

A long-time Walnut Creek resident, Jordan is an experienced actor, teacher, and avid history and literature buff. He trained at several leading arts institutions based in London, including the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Taylor has made Pleasanton her home for the past 24 years. By day, she is a sensory panelist (fancy terminology for food taster) at Eurofins Scientific and by night, she might be found performing on stage as an actress or singer. Seitelman is an actor, writer, and director who has appeared locally at the American Conservatory Theatre, Berkeley Rep, Willows, and Berkeley Playhouse.

Live! from the Library, produced by the Walnut Creek Library Foundation, features free public lectures, literary events, and cultural programs at the Walnut Creek and Ygnacio Valley libraries. Program sponsors are the East Bay Times, Friends of the Walnut Creek Library, and MinutemanPress Lafayette.
