Rock History of the 60's and 70's with Richie Unterberger

Vintage film clips, photos and more!

How much do you know about Contra Costa County rock history?

The Contra Costa County Historical Society presents Rock History of the 60’s & 70’s! Noted music historian, author and music reviewer Richie Unterberger will present an illustrated talk using vintage film clips, pictures, and records of Contra Costa County rock bands of the 1960s and early 1970s.

Creedence Clearwater Revival was the biggest of those groups, but bands based in Contra Costa County itself will also be featured, including Frumious Bandersnatch, Savage Resurrection, Country Weather, and Two Things In One. The Contra Costa connections of Country Joe & the Fish and the Grateful Dead will also be noted, as will the venues that hosted both local acts and touring international superstars like the Kinks.

Join us for this educational and entertaining event at the historic Campbell Theater in downtown Martinez. There will be an intermission, with drinks available for purchase.

  • Admission and parking are free.
  • Theater bar open before talk and during intermission.
  • Tours of the County archives will be available from 10am – 2pm.
  • RSVP is requested. Email: [email protected] or Call: (925) 229-1042

A $10 donation is suggested at the door. All proceeds benefit the preservation work of the Contra Costa County archives.
