Photographer Stephen Joseph Debuts Stunning New Mount Diablo Book

California landscape photographer Stephen Joseph launches "Mount Diablo, A Story of Place and Inspiration" at free book event Saturday, Nov. 16, Walnut Creek Library

California landscape photographer Stephen Joseph debuts his new book Mount Diablo, A Story of Place and Inspiration, on Saturday, November 16, 2019, at a free event at the Walnut Creek Library, 1644 N. Broadway, Oak View Room, Walnut Creek, 12:30-2:30pm. Joseph will speak about photographing Contra Costa County’s celebrated Mount Diablo, and books will be available for purchase and signing.

Stephen Joseph is a distinguished San Francisco Bay Area photographer known for his signature landscape panoramas that capture California’s distinctive geographic regions and rich, natural beauty in large and dramatic imagery. Esteemed for his ability to influence people and policy through his photographs, Joseph works regularly with land trusts and open space agencies whose mission is to preserve and protect private/public lands. His extensive knowledge of photography and his skill in the craft of creating images elevate his photographs to the level of fine art.

Mount Diablo, A Story of Place and Inspiration, features 214 panoramic photographs that celebrate the wonderment of Mount Diablo’s extraordinary lands. Accompanying Joseph’s distinctive photographs, created in the last three years, are four inspiring essays written by leaders in conservation and humankind’s cultural connections to natural lands: Seth Adams, Land Conservation Director, Save Mount Diablo; Edwin Bernbaum, PhD, The Mountain Institute; Edward “Ted” Sortwell Clement, Jr., Executive Director, Save Mount Diablo; and Robert Doyle, General Manager, East Bay Regional Park District. Together, these thoughtful voices explore the diverse ways natural lands, and Mount Diablo specifically, touch our lives and inspire us to care about our environment and each other. The essays’ authors and the book’s editor, Linda Rimac Colberg, will join Joseph in the discussion.
