Cartier and America

For more than one hundred years the House of Cartier has supplied royalty and celebrities with jewels and luxury accessories. Now a spectacular array of 200 objects comes to the Legion of Honor in San Francisco with the exhibition Cartier in America. American notables who famously collected Cartier include Marion Davies, Mrs. Cole Porter, Barbara Hutton and Elizabeth Taylor. For the first time, an American museum will feature the personal jewelry of Princess Grace of Monaco including her engagement ring—a 10.47-carat emerald-cut diamond set with two baguette diamonds mounted in platinum.

Chinese New Year falls on February 14, 2010, when we’ll be ringing in the Year of the Tiger! People born in the Year of the Tiger (1926, 1938, 1950, 1962, 1974, 1986, 1998, 2010) are characterized as sensitive, emotional, aggressive and sincere. Some famous people born in The Year of the Tiger are Marco Polo, Marilyn Monroe, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Charles Lindberg, Jay Leno, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Tom Cruise.


As the biggest holiday on the Asian calendar, celebrations happen throughout the month of February. The main event, however, is the Chinese New Year Festival and Parade on Saturday, February 27, 2010 at 5:15 pm. beginning on 2nd & Market Street in San Francisco. Story Painters

Story Painters provides our community a first-time opportunity to view the art of three extraordinary Bay Area artists. Utilizing the figure, personal symbols, and abstract elements, these artists employ a distinctive approach to art making, with the fundamentals of storytelling at the core of their work. Carnwath, Liu, and Storer are well known nation-wide, have been profiled in major museum exhibitions, and all have produced significant public art projects.

Dish It!

Cookbook author and chef Chat Mingkwan invites you to learn the art of preparing Asian cuisine at a series of classes in Walnut Creek. Start in January with his Pan Asian Noodles cooking class and learn how to prepare a scrumptious meal. Then in February using his new cookbook, Vietnamese Fusion: Vegetarian Cuisine, Chef Chat takes you on a quest for healthy eating with vegetarian dishes from various Asian cuisines. The series climaxes in March with our favorite, Dim Sum--the little savories and sweets that gladden the heart and palate.

Four Days on Diablo


Imagine sparkling streams flowing below spectacular mountain peaks, wildflower meadows and dense woodland views. Crossing only two roads in four days, you are in the middle of a wilderness just a half hour from your home. This is the thirty mile Diablo Trail – stretching through six different open spaces and crossing more than 50,000 acres of public land from Walnut Creek to Brentwood. During your four days on Mt. Navigating Change – Facing Forward

The East Bay Women’s Conference kicks-off March 1 with an impressive lineup of speakers including acclaimed international journalist Lisa Ling, America’s First Hearing Impaired Comedienne, Kathy Buckley and Lorrie Sullenberger, founder of Fit and Fabulous – Outdoors.
