To plan a visit to a SFO adjacent hotel without having a scheduled flight might seem a bit silly. With so many staycation, dining, and bar options within our East Bay midst, why put an airport hotel on the radar? Answer: Because it’s fun; especially so at The San Francisco Airport Marriott Waterfront where a newly redesigned lobby lounge features three-story, floor-to-ceiling views of the Bay and SFO’s landing strips.

It’s a stunning space – worthy of either an overnight visit or the time it takes to imbibe a craft cocktail. Located in the center of the bustling hotel’s lobby, Flights 101 Lounge is chic and inviting. A recent remodel included the addition of an expansive 25-seat bar anchored by a four screen media wall, cozy conversation areas, and a cascading, Czech-made, crystal chandelier that mimics the shape of the Bay waters. But it’s the wall of Bay and landing strip-facing windows that steals the show. One after another, incoming aircraft hover gracefully over the waves, serving to create an energetic and uplifting background vibe that permeates the lounge. And the sight of flight attendants, captains, and tourists gliding through the hotel lobby instills a sense of wanderlust that is partially satisfied via sheer proximity.

Enjoy barrel-aged cocktails, craft beers, and local wines along with specialty appetizers and a don’t miss Black Angus Beef Burger. Download the ‘Audio Everywhere’ app to your personal device to access audio for your favorite program playing on the four screen media wall – which, during major sporting events, becomes one large, movie-theater-like screen. (Flights 101 Lounge is a spirited and vibrant spot to watch the Warriors, Giants, or 49ers and you'll find just as many locals as you will travelers.)

Young, transportation-obsessed children especially might enjoy an outing to The San Francisco Airport Marriott Waterfront where the Flights 101 Lounge patio (featuring fire pits) gives them an unobstructed front row seat to the airport activity. Bring bikes or scooters, and pedal or push-off along the Bay-front trail. Book a night and ask for a Bay-facing room to further catch all the aircraft action. (The entire hotel was recently renovated; guest rooms are plush and comfy.)

To celebrate the hotel’s recent renovation, Marriott is offering a room package with a $50 Flights 101 Lounge food and beverage credit, and complimentary WiFi. To make reservations click here.
