Napa Riverfront Retreat

Sep 20, 2021 04:44PM ● By Pam Kessler

Less than an hour away, the land gives way to rolling hills, miles of vineyards, and pristine views. Add great food, tasting rooms, bike tours, plus cool accomodations, and there are plenty of reasons to get up and go to Napa.

Situated on the Napa River, with unparalleled access to the surrounding area, the tranquil environs at the Riverfront Terrace Inn offer a welcoming place to escape for a couple of days. Rooms come equipped with jacuzzi tubs, private balconies, and riverfront views.

An adjacent trail leads to the celebrated food hall, Oxbow Public Market, where there's a bounty of small production wines, craft beers, and diverse foods for lunch on the scenic deck. Next door, the culinary adventure continues at the CIA (Culinary Institute of America) at Copia where foodies savor Mediterranean suppers amid olive trees. For the pet-travelling crowd, the Riverfront Terrace’s onsite restaurant, Alba, hosts monthly “Yappy Hours” on a spacious outdoor patio paired with charcuterie platters and big cabs for humans.

Boutiques, galleries, and famed restaurants line the streets of historic downtown Napa. Don’t miss Jeffries General, an eclectic shop on Second Street filled with artisan home goods, self-care products, quality barware, fashionable menswear, and an apothecary. Take a break at Be Bubbly where the menu features a wide range of champagnes.

For dinner, make a reservation at Napa’s eponymous Morimoto for crispy branzini or braised Spanish octopus. Michelin-starred La Toque is another Napa classic for Chef Frank’s seafood pot au feu or signature ricotta chickpea ravioli. Nearby wine shops, like the Back Room and Robert Craig, are good spots for artisanal tastings.

Explore the wine country from the charming confines of a dining car on the Napa Valley Wine Train. The 36-mile route, from Napa to St. Helena, travels through gorgeous countryside while polished waiters serve basil-ricotta ravioli covered in shaved black truffle, smoked salmon crudo, and pan-seared scallops paired with wines.
