Diablo Symphony presents World of Rachmaninoff at Lesher Center

Walnut Creek pianist Mungunchimeg Buriad to play Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 i

On May 20 at 2:00 at Lesher Center for the Arts, the Diablo Symphony Orchestra and guest artist Mungunchimeg Buriad will perform Rachmaninoff’s towering Piano Concert No. 2. Also featured will be works of the great mid-twentieth century orchestrators Ottorino Respighi and Leopold Stokowski. In its final concert of the 2017-2018 season, the orchestra will perform Stokowski’s nostalgic arrangement of Bach’s Air on the G-String, as well as Respighi’s orchestration of 5 of Rachmaninoff’s evocative Etudes-Tableaux. Prepare to then be stunned by the extraordinary playing of Walnut Creek pianist Buriad in Rachmaninoff’s triumphant concerto, described as “both virtuosic and lyrical . . . with glorious melody after glorious melody flowing from the keyboard”. Many will surely hum along as they remember the popular songs “All By Myself” and “Blue Moon and Empty Arms”, both derived from this highly acclaimed and loved piano masterwork. Adult admission is $35, with discount ticket types available for Youth 17 and under and Children 12 and under. The concert will run approx. 2 hours 15 minutes, with one intermission.
