Diablo Symphony Digital Concert - Boysen, Bach, Schumann

Diablo Symphony presents "Digital Premiere" event with Bach's Double Violin Concerto, Schumann's 3rd Symphony and virtual video of new Dean Boysen work.

Please join us for our next digital premiere event on YouTube, Thursday October 1st, at 7:15pm - followed by a live video conversation with Matilda Hofman and other members of the Diablo Symphony Orchestra! The program opens with a conversation between Matilda Hofman and composer and DSO principal trumpet player Dean Boysen, followed by Boysen’s new composition “Missing You”. Composed during quarantine due to Covid-19, and performed by DSO members individually and then digitally compiled, the work sends a musical message to friends, family and loved ones that they are missed and in our thoughts during this unparalleled and challenging period of time. Boysen has written arrangements and original music for brass chamber music ensembles, big bands, concert bands and now for symphony orchestra. This first DSO virtual video project was a challenging music endeavor, but also an immensely personal and enjoyable experience. Also featured are the Bach Double Violin Concerto, with violin soloists Sara Usher and Dawn Harms, and Robert Schumann’s 3rd Symphony ("The Rhenish"). Sara Usher, concertmaster of the Diablo Symphony, has been concertmaster for the Vallejo Symphony, the Santa Cruz Symphony and the Tassajara Symphony, as well as Principal Second for the SF Chamber Symphony and Oakland East Bay Symphonies. Dawn Harms is a first violinist in the San Francisco Opera Orchestra, associate concertmaster for the New Century Chamber Orchestra and co-concertmaster with the Oakland Symphony. Both performances were recorded during live Diablo Symphony concerts held at the Lesher Center for the Arts. Please also join us via live video conference on Zoom immediately after the concert for conversation and discussion with Matilda Hofman and members of the DSO.
