Diablo Symphony Celebrates the Holidays with Fratello Marionettes

Celebrate the holidays in style with a beautiful and varied selection of music, ranging from Sibelius’ wintery and exquisite violin concerto to holiday favorites with the Fratello Marionettes. Suitable for the whole family.

Join the Diablo Symphony Orchestra on December 11 at 2:00 p.m. at Walnut Creek Presbyterian Church to celebrate the holidays in style with the Fratello Marionettes and guest violinist Grace Huh. Suitable for the whole family, the program promises to engage audience members of all ages in a varied selection of holiday music, including Samuel Coleridge-Taylor’s “Christmas Overture” as well as Hanukkah and Christmas favorites. Grace Huh, 2019–20 Diablo Symphony Yen Liang Young Artist Competition winner and current student in the Columbia University-Juilliard School Exchange, joins forces with the orchestra in Sibelius’s exquisite Violin Concerto in D Minor. The concert concludes with a wintery journey led by a colorful cast of marionettes performing to excerpts from “The Nutcracker Suite” by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and the “Dance of the Tumblers” by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov. Marionette builders and puppeteers Kevin Menegus and Samantha Lake have frequently collaborated with local symphony orchestras to produce performances blending live classical music with the storytelling art of puppetry.
