COOL THINGS TO DO INSIDE
Watch a Music Fest
As we arrive at the festival weekend that should have been, Outside Lands presents Inside Lands, a free virtual festival streaming on Twitch. It kicks off August 28 at 4 pm with two days of iconic music and footage from the past 12 years, plus live performances and artist interviews. Go to twitch.tv/sfoutsidelands. Enjoy the show!
Plot your next Garden
Fall is the best planting season in hot Bay Area microclimates like Walnut Creek. Some edible options to get growing include leafy greens like kale, collards, swiss chard, spinach, bok choi, and lettuces; nutritious crops like broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, and Brussels sprouts; aromatic herbs like chives, cilantro, sage, and thyme; familiar favorites include peas, beans, and onions. Get started with fall plant sales like this one at The GardensHeather Farm.
Workout
If you need a little movement, studios and instructors around town are streaming live workouts, whether it's cycling, yoga, or dancing, you can find it online. Check out The Bay Club, Forma Gym, and Just Be Yoga. Of course, there are plenty of others.
Bake Bread
Move over sourdough, it’s time to master the art of challah. This twisted, sweet, almost brioche-like bread is delish slathered with butter or dressed up as French Toast. PRO TIP: Several risings make a better loaf, and if you want an especially brioche-like texture, let the dough rise slowly in the refrigerator for one of the three risings.
Get a Culture Fix
The Oakland Museum of California (OMCA) is working hard to keep us engaged at home with online learning resources, activities, and favorite works of art, including the Dorothea Lange Digital Archive — a collection of more than 20,000 images from the iconic photographer.
