Visit Walnut Creek Debuts Inaugural Calipolitan Cocktail Competition

It’s a mix of the laidback California lifestyle with a cosmopolitan flair. Walnut Creek is Calipolitan. If the whimsical word—Calipolitan—is new to you, don’t worry, it’s new to everyone else too. In recent months, the Walnut Creek Visitor’s Bureau took a long, hard look in the mirror and hit the pedal, deciding it was time for a new brand, new slogan, and new website.

Developed by Creative:MINT, in collaboration with Visit Walnut Creek’s Director of Sales & Marketing Nicole Hankton, "Go Calipolitan" offers a dynamic approach for marketing Walnut Creek to regional and national leisure and business travelers.

“As we get back to going out and about, the Walnut Creek Visitors Bureau is actively creating new ways to promote Walnut Creek as a safe and fun place for small meetings, conferences, social events, hiking, biking, dining, shopping, and so much more. By rebranding our city with 'Go Calipolitan,' we are differentiating Walnut Creek as a travel destination,” said Hankton.

To bring the city’s eclectic mix to life, Visit Walnut Creek challenged local mixologists to craft a signature “Calipolitan” cocktail recipe that captures the vibrancy of Walnut Creek. Creative concoctions that get the nod will go head-to-head with other mixologists in a judged Calipolitan Cocktail Competition at Renaissance Bay Club on July 7. Once crowned, the winning cocktail can expect top billing on beverage menus all over town as Walnut Creek’s signature drink.

“Creating ‘The Calipolitan’ has provided a great opportunity for local restaurants and bars to show off their skills. Personally, I am excited to taste the winning cocktail,” said Hankton. There’s still time to get in the mix. Submissions are due June 30 by midnight. visitwalnutcreek.org
