If you’re stumped about what to give dad for Father’s Day, any one of these Italian wines is sure to be well received. Wine always makes for a great gift, especially when it’s Italian wine. Each of these particular labels is unforgettable and one-of-a-kind, just like dad. Choose according to your pop's personality!
For the vivacious dad: Sicilia DOC Filari ($35) This organic, deep ruby red wine made from Nero d'Avola grapes has fruity notes of blackberries, cherries and raspberries. With large structure and balanced acidity and fine tannins, it is silky yet also lively with great vivacity.
For the bold dad: Case d'Alto, Taurasi Riserva ($80) This small winery in Avellino, near Naples, produces big, typical Irpinia wines, such as this excellent, bold-yet-smooth Taurasi Riserva. Leather, prune, and exotic spice aromas lead the nose. Perfect with beef, pasta, and lamb.
For the irreverent dad: Luretta Puck ($24) This blend of Cabernet and a local Barbera is a beautiful representation of its Emilia Romagna region. Vibrant and affable with hints of violets and red fruits, this wine is fresh and slightly irreverent and is perfect for grilling parties and picnics. It pairs well with pastas and tasty fish dishes.
For the elegant dad: Etna Doc Bianco Enrico IV Contrada Santo Spirito 2018 ($34) Made by Carricante, the signature grape from Mt. Etna, this elegant volcanic wine features spicy aromas of grapefruit, mint, and tropical fruit. Age this one, and it will only gain in personality.
Buona Festa del papà!
