CHINESE NEW YEAR PARADE

Considered one of the largest celebrations of its kind in the world, the Chinese New Year Festival & Parade returns to San Francisco on February 4th from 5:00-8:00pm. This spectacular event features gorgeous floats, elaborate costumes, and a 288-foot Golden Dragon carried by a team of over 180 martial artists. 2nd St & Market to Kearny & Columbus. chineseparade.com.

EMPRESS BY BOON

One of Chinatown’s hottest Cantonese culinary destinations, Empress by Boon, led by Michelin-starred Chef Ho Chee Boon, has designed a special eight-course prix fixe menu for Chinese New Year. The celebratory menu starts with small bites, followed by seafood courses, two mains, and dessert. Guests will also be treated to lucky red envelopes and a festive lion dance performance.

MEAN GIRLS

Direct from Broadway, the hit musical Mean Girls opens at the Golden Gate Theatre in San Francisco January 31. It’s the hilarious story of a naïve newbie who falls prey to the vicious ways of her new frenemies in suburban Illinois. Through February 26. 

CALIFORNIA SYMPHONY

Take a magical musical trip to the City of Light with Chopin in Paris at California Symphony’s February 4-5 Walnut Creek performances. The Parisian themed concerts are conducted by Music Director Donato Cabrera, celebrating his 10th year with the orchestra.

Bay Area artist Erin Fong transforms the Bedford Gallery into a myriad of vibrant hues at this dramatic display of her prints, paintings, and installations. Through April 2, Wed-Sun.

NAPA LIGHTED ART FESTIVAL

Experience the magic of light of wine country after dark on a walking tour of 10 illuminated art sculptures during the Napa Lighted Art Festival January 21 through February 19.
