Celebrating The Earth In April

April means spring flowers, and Walnut Creek’s 2700-acres of
open space promises them in abundance. Explore trails on Lime Ridge, Shell
Ridge, Acalanes Ridge, and Sugarloaf. Volunteers for the Walnut Creek Open Space Foundation work tirelessly to preserve, restore, and enhance these beautiful
spaces.
April 20 Earth Day Celebration Civic Park
Live music, food trucks, games, trashy fashion, and workshops are on tap at this free community event in downtown Walnut Creek. Sponsored by Sustainable Walnut Creek, join local organizations, neighbors, and small businesses to promote a healthy planet. 11AM to 4PM
April 20 Plant Sale Gardens at Heather Farm
Shop for tomatoes, veggies, California natives, and
everything in between at one of Walnut Creek’s most treasured gardens. Live music,
gorgeous views, and a huge selection of plants to pop in your garden. 8AM-1PM, 1540 Marchbanks Drive.
April 20-28 National Park Week
Check out our great local parks like Muir Woods, Alcatraz
Island, or The Presidio during National Park Week—a nine-day celebration of
everything "parks." The event kicks-off on April 20 with free
entrance fees, followed by special activities at the nation’s 400+ national
parks.
April 21 Lafayette Earth Day Festival
Spend Sunday in downtown
Lafayette Plaza for a day family fun, live music, a petting zoo, bike tune-ups, and resources to help you reduce energy, water, and waste. 11 AM
to 2 PM
April 20–21 Northern California Cherry Blossom Festival
Experience vibrant Japanese American culture in San Francisco's Japantown surrounded by cherry blossoms. Taiko drumming, martial arts, bonsais, and a grand parade.
April 22 Creek Climate Walk
Join former mayor and dedicated conservationist, Bob Simmons,
on a tour around the city’s creek. Learn about efforts to
revitalize native plants and boost the local ecosystem. Meet at Civic Park
Gazebo, 9AM-11AM.
April 27 CoCo San Sustainable Farm Celebration
Support youth programs at Contra Costa’s volunteer-run,
charity farm and its ongoing efforts to produce and donate over 10,000 pounds of fresh food each
year. Take a farm tour, eat delicious food, dance to live music, and get
inspired at this special event. 3:00-7:00PM, 5500 Imhoff Drive, Martinez.
