Chicago-based installation artist and sculptor Theaster Gates teams up with Kennedy Center Artistic Director for Jazz and pianist Jason Moran to remount a work conceived by Moran that premiered at Chicago Symphony Center in May 2014, a series of blues compositions presented in correlation with a set designed by Gates. For its D.C. premiere, musicians from Chicago's Kenwood Academy High School explore themes of contemporary life for youth and the notion that practicing the art of music is a tool for survival and healing. This performance will also feature saxophonist Ken Vandermark and vocalist Katie Ernst.
